August 2020 Serving and Sharing Newsletter

The Provincial Women’s Board presents:

Serving and Sharing

Newsletter for August 2020

From Our President:

Dear Sisters,

It is an honor and a blessing to come to you as president of the Provincial Women’s Board.  It is an unusual time for us all, but the Board intends to continue to work for the women of the Southern Province.

2020 has not been a great year for many of us.  The life we are leading now is not what we are accustomed to doing or what we are comfortable with doing.  It is easy to think of all that we have lost because of the pandemic, and it is easy to become discouraged with all the turmoil in our country and the world.  Whenever I begin to feel this way, I think of how this all is part of God’s plan for us.  What can I learn from Him?

I always look at what God does for me every single day.  I felt a bit overwhelmed when I realized that nothing the Provincial Women’s Board has done in the past would be the same.  We have had to cancel 2 significant events, the Spiritual Life Retreat and the Fall Celebration.  We lost several of the Days of Prayer.  We do not know what the next few months will bring.  So how was I going to lead this group of women?  I turned to God and was reminded that these women volunteered to serve on this board.  They are coming up with wonderful plans and ideas for doing what we love to do even in a pandemic.  We will make adjustments, but we will still serve you.

I have looked to my family and friends during this time as well.  My family received a great blessing that resulted in much joy.  I have enjoyed Zoom meetings and phone calls.  We have had wonderful gatherings outside while not getting close.

Please remember that this newsletter is intended to highlight what you are doing at your churches.  We would love to hear from you.  Please submit short articles or descriptions of some of the ways your church is serving God.  You can send them to the office by email (pwbmcsp@gmail.com).

God answered my question.  What can I learn from God’s plan for me?  Everything!  I have learned to put aside all that is difficult in our world today.  I focus on what I can do to serve God!  I will not look back on this year with sadness, but with joy for all the blessings I have experienced.  One great blessing is having the opportunity to serve on the PWB with the incredible women of the board who are supportive and creative and generous.

Blessings, Pam Prevatte

Fall Celebration

The 2020 Fall Celebration will be different! On Saturday, August 29, The Rt. Rev. Sam Gray and The Rev. Linda Seippel will be videoing their review of the Bible Study book and the Mission Study Book. After that time, you will be able to view workshops on YouTube, Facebook, etc. We will use our email list to send the link to you. Email the office to update your email address.

We will be arranging a time for everyone to  pick up their study books. As many of you know there is a huge construction zone all around Old Salem, therefore we thought it best to have a day to pick up the books away from the office. We will contact those who have ordered books via email.

The third part of the Fall Celebration is the 2021 Budget for the PWB. We will send the proposed budget to the church offices and Women's Fellowship Presidents. A short time will be allowed for questions. Next, we will be publishing a survey for all the women of the Southern Province to vote.

We are very sad that we will not be able to see your smiling faces this year. But looking forward to being together with you all soon.

Prison Cake Ministry Update

The Prison Cake Ministry of the Provincial Women’s Board has been put on hold since mid-March because of the Covid-19 pandemic.  However, we received a chance to be a blessing when the Administrative Assistant in the prison Chaplain’s office called me right after the 4th of July.  Each year the prison staff hosts a picnic for the inmates.  In the past the Dining Hall at the prison has helped supply the desserts for the picnic.  However, this year the Dining Hall was not able to do this.  So Brooke, the Administrative Assistant, reached out to us since we had not been able to supply the cakes for the Yokefellow program.  I called 5 churches that either not had the chance to deliver their cakes or were on schedule to deliver in July.  Each church was glad to donate a full sheet cake for the picnic.  We then had to wait to hear from Brooke as to when the picnic would take place.  Last week she called me and said that the date for the picnic was up in the air and that we would not have enough time to order, purchase, and deliver the cakes when the picnic date was set.   So, it was decided that each church involved would donate $50 to the Prison Ministry and the staff would purchase the cakes.  Each church involved was glad to do so.  Working with the Prison Cake Ministry has been a great blessing to me but with my other duties as Vice-President of the Board I am giving up my prison ministry duties.  The chair of the committee will be Linda Worley (Hope).  Her committee consists of Kaye Brookshire (Ardmore) and Faye Bricca (Bethania).  I know they will do a wonderful job.  I also want to express my heartfelt thanks to the following churches who donated money for the cakes for the prison picnic; Advent, Ardmore,Bethabara, Bethania, and Friedberg.

Friedberg -The Women’s Fellowship has been very busy during this pandemic.  They have sponsored 2 very successful food drives to benefit Sunnyside Ministry.  On Sunday July 26 Circle 4 of the Women’s Fellowship sponsored a drive-by Christmas in July event to benefit the Blessing Box that they support.  Lots of non-perishable food items, toiletries, and personal hygiene items were donated.  Also, at this event Moravian star masks were sold to benefit Laurel Ridge.  This was a huge success.  The masks were sold out but more have been ordered.  If you would like to purchase one you can call Sherri Phillips in the church office at 336-764-1830.  The masks cost $10 and come in sizes small and large.  The colors to choose from are red, slate blue, and grey. The new order of masks should arrive in about 2 weeks.  The Friedberg Choir sold beautiful pens that come in a velvet pouch for $5.  These pens come in a variety of colors and proceeds go to support the Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministry.  If you would like to get one you can call Sherri Phillips in the church office again at 336-764-1830.  They make very nice gifts.
